Beaches
La Malagueta – the main city beach, close to the centre, with relaxed beach bars.
Pedregalejo – former fishermen’s quarter with colourful houses and tapas by the water.
El Palo – quieter and local, famous for grilled sardines (espetos) on open fire.
Museums and culture
- Picasso Museum – celebrating Málaga’s most famous son.
- Centre Pompidou Málaga – modern art in the striking glass cube at the harbour.
- Carmen Thyssen Museum – Andalusian art displayed in a historic palace.
- Museo Jorge Rando – expressionist museum dedicated to Jorge Rando. Slightly outside the city center but within walking distance and worth the walk (free admission).
- Museo Málaga – fine arts museum located in a beautiful building near the harbor.
- Museo Revello de Toro – a small museum dedicated to the painter of the same name. Small, but definitely worth a visit.
- Museo del Vidrio y Cristal – museum of glass and crystal. It houses an impressive collection of decorative glass.
- La Isla Negra – a small antique bookshop with beautiful books and art, located near Plaza de la Merced.
- SOHO – visit this small district near the harbor for its restaurants and numerous murals.
Historic highlights
- Alcazaba – Moorish fortress and palace with gardens and panoramic views.
- Gibralfaro Castle – hilltop fortress, ideal for sunset views over the city and sea.
- Cathedral “La Manquita” – known as “the one-armed lady” because one tower was never completed.
- Roman Theatre – located beneath the Alcazaba, beautifully lit at night.
Muelle Uno
A stylish marina and promenade with boutiques, cafés and street performers.
- Home to the Pompidou Museum.
- Perfect for evening strolls, shopping or waterfront dining.
Food and wine
- Atarazanas Market – fresh produce, seafood, jamón and authentic tapas stalls.
- Enjoy a cocktail in one of the many rooftop bars with fantastic views.
- Mercado de Salamanca – covered fresh market, less well-known than the Mercado de Atarazanas, but definitely worth a visit. Located close to the Jorge Rando Museum.
- In the city center, you will find many lovely restaurants serving delicious food at good prices.
- Try local tarta malagueña, sweet Málaga wine or fried boquerones.
